The earliest prototypes were all built in-house on an FDM printer: filament deposition, additive manufacturing, the kind of machine you can run overnight in the shop. It’s a little coarse compared to what ships, but it’s fast and cheap enough to make real shape-and-form exploration possible rather than theoretical. Some of what came out of that run shows up in the prototype series entry.
The next step has been moving to a commercial printing house: SLS nylon parts and SLA-printed parts, run side by side to actually compare production methods, finish quality, and cost at real volume rather than guessing. That run is in production now, with parts due to arrive at the start of September. Once they’re in hand, the open question is finishing: whether the material’s own surface is good enough as-is, or whether it needs paint. The configurator’s own part-finish options are downstream of this, and will get filled in properly once real costing is in, along with final part pricing.
