Planning a first Kickstarter

The founder’s batch of 20 is deliberately small, and that’s the point: it’s the prelaunch before a real Kickstarter campaign, not the campaign itself. Working directly with a small group of early users first, before opening this up to a much bigger set of backers, is how the fine-tuning details actually get caught: fit, feel, the small stuff that only shows up once real people are turning the crank in their own hands.

The Kickstarter itself is targeted for the next couple of months, and it’ll be a first for us, so the goal is being kept deliberately modest: somewhere around $8,000 to $10,000, more about getting real experience running a campaign than hitting a big number. This first round is specifically for players compatible with original Fisher-Price cartridges; the reengineered cartridge work on the roadmap comes after.
