The 16mm question

Everything so far has been built around Super 8, but the mechanism itself doesn’t actually care what gauge of film it’s pulling through the gate. A 16mm version is a real question, not just a thought experiment: the technology for 16mm loops already exists, and we’ve procured samples of actual 16mm animation to test against.

This sits past the film recorder on the roadmap, a stage four, worth exploring once everything ahead of it actually ships. The appeal is straightforward: 16mm carries meaningfully finer grain and resolution than Super 8 ever could, and if the mechanism scales cleanly, that’s a real upgrade path rather than a new product.
